Happy 2012 and a Look Back at 2011

This morning an email went out with a link to the 2011 End-of-year Slideshow. I’ve had so much fun putting this together that I’m going to make it an annual tradition. This year’s slideshow features some of my clients that were photographed in 2011. I wish I could have included everyone, but there are so limitations since the song is only so long. As it is, the slideshow goes very quickly, so you should be ready to watch it as soon as it starts.

Speaking of the many clients who were in front of my camera this year, I actually went back and counted and I was shocked to see that in 2011 I photographed almost 650 people and their 4-legged friends! wow. And, that doesn’t count some of the commercial clients I worked with, such as the Bach Festival or the 2 weddings I photographed. I was even surprised by that number.

Looking forward to 2012, I’m excited to continue offering both Premium and Mini sessions year round. I’ll be offering special sessions around the time that the azaleas are in bloom (probably late-February -early March). I’m going to continue to offer returning clients a price break on Premium Sessions (just ask!). And, finally I’m going to be offering a few new products, as well as expanding some of my current product lines.

“At Home” Session

I’ve been doing this family’s holiday cards for a number of years now, and each year we try to do something a bit different. This year, we brainstormed on the idea of doing a very casual “At Home” documentary-style session. I spent the afternoon with these fun boys and just followed them around with my camera while they did what they love to do. It was a blast and I’m thrilled with the outcome. Another one of my newborn clients is growing up way too fast for me. He’s losing all his baby-ness and becoming such a sweet toddler.

I kept saying during the session, “I can’t believe she’s 2.” And, I meant it. It seems just yesterday I was photographing her newborn session and now on Wednesday she turns two! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I LOVE watching my clients grow up. Watching their little personalities grow and develop. My heart was so touched when she said “thank you, Miss Karen” at the end of our session. Awwww! Happy Birthday, sweet girl.

From this morning’s Holiday Card Sessions. I love everything about this picture: they way they are holding hands, their giggles (I can still hear them!), their socks (!), but above all I love the connection they have now and will always have as sisters.

I’ll have more to post from this session after I have finished editing everything, but for now I wanted to post a quick sneak peek. Not because it is an earth-shattering portrait. But, more because these two hooligans (I say that with lots of love since I’ve known them since they were born!) gave me a run for my money. Getting both of them in one shot — where they are both smiling — was a feat of sheer determination.

It was a beautiful morning for photos! The cool air almost hinted at the holidays to come. Today was a fun photo morning at Casa Feliz with 3 clients — all returning clients. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the best parts of my job is watching families grow up — in front of my lens. I’d also like to point out that each of these families did such a great job on coordinating (but not matching!) outfits for everyone. Yay!

The last time these two were in front of my camera was 3 years ago. They are truly wonderful kids!

These two make me laugh at their totally cheesy grins. As a side note, we were reminding the older sister about the first time she was in front of my camera. She had just turned 1, had just a little peach fuzz on the top of her head, and cried the entire session! ha Its a fun memory to smile back on now.

Kids Fashion III

After the clouds parted the other day I was able to finish my 3-part series on Kids Fashion, featuring dresses from CourtneyCourtney. It really couldn’t have worked out better — the evening light was gorgeous, a hint of cool in the air, and a rather cooperative 2 year old (shock!). You can see Part I here and Part II here.
