When I set out to write this page my mind was a blank. Not because I don’t have a story. Or because I think I’m a boring person. But because I was stuck on how to tell you who I am without sounding cliche. Because all of the following things, while they may sound cliche, are true:
* I am a wife, mother, daughter, friend.
* I find that being a Mom makes me a better photographer.
* I love what I do.
So, now that those are out of the way, I want to tell you about me so you’ll understand better about who I am as an artist. First, some personal details. I’m fiercely independent. I am not who I am because I have to be — I am who I am because I want to be. I find that to be a very important distinction. In some ways I chose my path in life, and in some ways it chose me. It includes a college degree in Marketing and a 17 career in brand management, marketing & PR. I met my husband when I was in my late 30s and had my daughter after the age of 40. Six years ago I did what most people dream of: I left behind my corporate life and started my own business. I understand how lucky I am.
I have always had a passion for art and design. I love gathering pieces and putting them together to create something. I love balance (in life & design). I find creative inspiration in everything visual — from store merchandising displays to fabric stores to art & design books. Pinterest is visual eye candy heaven for me.
I’m enamoured with real life. I like reality shows just a bit too much. But, I am fascinated with the interactions & relationships among us all and the stories that come out as a result of that. I guess that’s why I love photographing families so much.
My name is Karen and I’m a photographer who captures real life love stories.
